GFPS Functionality Assessment & Capacity Development Training-Workshop kicks off

Aimed at capacitating the members of the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) of Apayao State College, the GAD Office is now holding the first day of the four-day training-workshop dubbed as “GFPS Functionality Assessment”, which is taking place at El Dia Resort in Claveria, Cagayan.

Dr. Rema B. Ocampo, Academic Dean, Luna Campus, presented and acknowledged the participants composed of officials, unit heads & staff, and program chairpersons.

Subject Matter Expert and Assessor, Dr. Ferdinand P. Gonzales, Co-chair of the Regional Gender and Development Committee-CAR and National GAD Resource Pool, Philippine Commission on Women, was introduced by Ms. Minerva A. Eslao (Legal Office).

The GFPS aims to “ensure gender responsive programs, monitor compliance and performance, identify capacity building needs, and promote transparency and accountability,” as mentioned by Dr. Rey Carl Arimas, GAD Focal Person.

In his message, Dr. Ronald O. Ocampo, VPARDES, stressed the necessity for inspiring actions and molding transformational changes. “Each one of us here plays a crucial role in this transformation. Whether you are a policymaker, a development practitioner, or an advocate, your efforts are vital in driving progress.”

In the morning session, Dr. Gonzales began his discussion on several legal bases that mandate GAD implementation and various concepts on how to integrate the GAD lens perspective in the workplace. “For GPFS to function, first, we need to invest on knowledge, skills, and, attitude.”

He further underscored that activities being done today and tomorrow form part of the environmental scanning ( administering of Gender Mainstreaming Evaluation Framework Tool and the GFPS Functionality Assessment Tool) towards drafting of the GAD Agenda 2025-2030.

The GAD activity runs from June 4-7.
